Haryana is a gold mine when it comes to producing athletes. Since time immemorial, the state has done extraordinary work in this field. Haryana would be in eighth place in the medal tally if it competed as a country in the 2022 Common Wealth Games in Birmingham. 40% of all the medals won by India in the 2022 Common Wealth Games were won by Haryana.
26-year-old Neeraj Saini is one of those legendary athletes from the state. Neeraj is a boxer by profession, from Haryana. Saini is known as “The Sher.” He is 5′ 10″ tall and weighs 69 kilograms.He is the current UBO Asia Pacific champion from India in the Super Division Championship in 2017.
Early Life:
Neeraj was born in Chandawali village in Haryana. He did his schooling from Sainik Public School and persuing degree in bachelor of arts. His parents are Mr. Rohtas Saini and Mrs. Hemlata Saini. He had been very active in sports since childhood and always wanted to do something big for his country’s name.
Career, awards, and championships:
Neeraj began boxing in 2015 in Faridabad, Haryana, and went on to win a silver medal at the 2016 Rural International Games in Gujarat. In 2016, he won gold at the Khel Mahakumbh Open National Boxing and silver at the Kaithal School National Open. After that, he won a bronze medal in the All-India Senior Men’s Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Boxing Championship in 2016 at Visakhapatnam.
Along with this, Neeraj also participated in lots of national boxing championships, such as SGFI in 2015–2016 and the Senior Men’s National Boxing Championship organized by the AIBF in 2017, 2018, and 2019. His Coach is Mr. Rajiv Kumar Ghateda.

“The Sher Saini,” Neeraj, won the UBO Asia Pacific title and became Asia Pacific champion in super welterweight. While the result didn’t come about in the manner that anyone had hoped, Indian Neeraj hardly put a foot wrong and is the new Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) Asia-Pacific Super Welterweight Champion. On Saturday, June 11, in Noida, his opponent, Moksadul Rana from Bangladesh, came out throwing wild haymakers, hitting mostly air, while Neeraj quickly adjusted and avoided the punches with ease. Suddenly, Rana informed referee Rahul Sharma that he didn’t want to continue, without being hit by any punches of consequence or appearing to be injured, and just like that, the fight was waved over at 1:55 of the first round. It was a highly bizarre ending and an unfortunate one for Mr. Neeraj, now 5-2, who deserved a more game opponent and obviously has no fault. The show was promoted by Dwarka Pro Boxing Promotions, who put on a fine event and also deserved a better effort from the visiting title challenger.
