The Normal Anomaly Collective has been working tirelessly to bring Houston the most inclusive and impactful LGBTQ+ experience of the year, and it’s finally happening.
The second Black Queer Advancement Festival will take place in Houston on May 6, 2023, and will be led by the world-renowned media PR expert, Chadd Black.
In a recent interview with this year’s Exclusive Local TV Sponsor ABC 13, Ian Haddock, Founder of The Normal Anomaly Initiative, states:
“This is an act of Fun, Politics, and, more importantly, an opportunity to build community!”
The festival will take place at Stampede Houston and will feature headlining acts by National Recording Artists KenTheMan and Kidd Kenn, as well as special performances by R&B Diva Keke Wyatt and the up-and-coming Sevndeep. The festival will also include several events and activities, such as the Miss Black Queer AF Pageant, The Advancement Forum, and Sunday Service at St. Peter United.
The Miss Black Queer AF Pageant, taking place on May 3, 2023, will be held at Hamburger Mary’s Houston. The winner of the pageant will receive a prize package that includes being booked for the Music Festival stage later that weekend. The Advancement Forum will take place on May 4th and 5th and will feature the Black Pride Hall of Fame in the Charles Law Archive. The keynote speech for this event will be given by Greg Mathis, Jr.
Sunday Service will start with Sunday Service at St. Peter United and will feature guest psalmist Tiffany Andrews from Sunday’s Best Season Nine. The festival will end with a party at Balmoral Crystal Clear Lagoon in Humble, TX, curated by Impulse Group Houston. These two events are free, but attendees can skip the line and access VIP services with a weekend pass under the Music Festival.
