Humble Beginnings
Mehul has come a long way from the 1-room apartment he shared with his entire family growing up. Now, he is a music industry entrepreneur who supports his family and has bought many properties for his family. He got there through his determination, creativity, and never giving up.
In 2015, Mehul dropped out of college because of his family’s financial problems and frustration with his studies and started working with his father’s clothing shop, but he did not let this end his path to success. After stumbling upon a video describing how he could get income through a YouTube channel, he decided to go for it. Mehul was hungry to learn as much as he could about starting a successful channel. He dove in, creating a channel about Android technology that was quickly suspended because of YouTube policy violations.
However, he did not allow this setback to discourage him. Instead, he started a YouTube channel that provided the lyrics of popular music. He began editing the videos on his phone but encountered another obstacle when his phone broke. Remaining determined, he pleaded with his friends and family to let them edit on their phones. “I didn’t give up because I knew I [would] become successful in this field…slowly but surely,” Mehul said about this time in his life. Finally, one of his friends agreed to let him use his phone to edit videos. He uploaded his first video to the lyric channel, MLyrics, on December 24th, 2016.
Continued Struggles
After this breakthrough, Mehul ran into yet another dilemma—his channel was receiving copyright claims and, therefore, could not be monetized through YouTube. Doggedly, he began asking song owners to remove their copyright claims. Then, one of his lyric videos blew up, earning him his first $200 of YouTube money. With this money, he purchased an Smart phone to continue editing. He began creating and uploading videos, building momentum for his channel while working in his father’s clothing shop. He began earning 1,000 dollars a month from his channel. Just as he reached this level of success, YouTube suspended his channel in February 2018.
Even this setback, which may have dissuaded others, did not deter Mehul. He started another channel from scratch, convincing his elder brother to join him on the journey by creating his own channel. Six months later, both channels attained success just before YouTube adjusted its monetization policies—the channels were no longer eligible to earn money. However, Mehul continued working on the channels, determined as ever.
Soon, Mehul discovered an intriguing e-mail in his inbox. A guy offered him $20,000 to sell his two channels. Mehul jumped on the offer. He started another channel to grow and sell while researching this new market. He discovered that music company is helping monetise these types of channels through paid promotions, then kept thirty to forty percent of their revenue in exchange. With a new grasp on the industry, Mehul set to work. Mehul contacted the owners of other small lyric channels and became their agent. He took a 10% cut from the small lyric channels in exchange for connecting them with his music industry contact—a deal that behooved both sides.
Mehul ran with this business model. He invested money in buying small lyrical channels, trained his friends to run them. He began earning income from these and his clients’ channels. Soon, he made enough to purchase a property, convert it to an office, and hire 10 employees. It finally seemed that Mehul had reached success until his business’s cash flow dried up at the end of 2019.
Reaching Success
Again, Mehul responded in a way that many would not. He did not give up. He did not despair. He simply pivoted his business with a new model. Through his research, he began to build relationships with independent record labels. These labels helped him monetize his channels. He added his 5 well running YouTube channels and successfully monetised them with the help of this new music company. Then, he created his own record label “Gseven Records” signed few amazing artists and started investing money using what he had learned from his industry contacts. He converted one of his YouTube channels into a record label and used several more channels to support various record labels, independent artists increasing his income from the new business model.
Now, Mehul has enough capital coming in that he bought houses for his family—no longer do they all share a one-room apartment. His portfolio comprises more than fifty YouTube channels, cryptocurrencies, stocks, real estate, and a record label worth more than a million dollars. He instructs around 300 students on how to earn money by being a YouTube curator. He has also earned 8 YouTube play buttons and uses his income from his business to help many people in his community who are in need.
Additionally, Mehul married his wife, Lakshmi, and settled down. Mehul loves his family’s pride in his hard work and how far he has come. Mehul never gave up, and his belief that he could succeed never vacillated. Because of this, he helped his family and his community in addition to bettering himself.
